Featured Snippet
A selected search result that appears in a prominent box at position zero — above standard organic results — displaying a direct answer extracted from a webpage. Featured snippets appear for approximately 12% of queries and are earned by providing clear, concise, directly answering content formatted as a paragraph, list, or table. Winning a snippet can double or triple CTR from the SERP.
How Featured Snippet works in practice
Google displays featured snippets for informational and question-based queries where a single, direct answer exists. Paragraph snippets (most common) are extracted from pages that answer a specific question in 40–60 words; list snippets come from numbered or bulleted content; table snippets come from HTML tables. To win a snippet: find queries where a snippet exists (identifiable in SERPs), analyse the format and length of the current snippet, then write a more concise, directly answering version using the same format. Winning a featured snippet does not always increase clicks — for some queries, the snippet answers the question fully and users do not click through (zero-click searches), so evaluate by actual traffic impact, not just ranking position.
